NYC with good friends

I went into the city today to meet up with Joy and Susan. Awesome time walking around taking photos and checking up. Brunch at Lily's, cupcake at Crumbs, lots of laughs, talking , walking and positive energy.
Was hoping to get some snow photos but there wasn't any just a few flakes.

I feel good. The burn on my collar bone I peeling and the possible spider bite is healing.

Will post photos tomorrow

Today was my last Radiation treatment

Yes!! I am going out to do something fun tonight - going to a fashion show. I will celebrate on my five year anniversary - for now I will just be happy that I don't have to see doctors for 6 wks - oh wait I have on EKG tomorrow morning!!!!!

My parents dog Ginger passed away this morning at 1:30AM. She was 15 yrs old - sweet girl. I was looking forward to playing with her when I go to visit Feb 25.

Today I wore a Pretty Pink sweater -ha!!

I am feeling pretty in Pink today!! My hair is really coming back fast!!

I went to radiation this morning #26 - 4 more to go - the burst is quick only 5 minutes.
I also had an appointment with my oncologist today and WOW was it great to get so much positive energy and love from the people in that office. What a great group.
The chemo nurses are great - I miss them.

J and E went out for happy hour last and just happen to talk about me of course with a couple of drinks in her E said my name as Carlene Dunnup!! ha!! Love her. Can't wait to go to happy hour with them in May when the roof deck is open at Casey's in RVC. Partying with the chemo nurses that will be fun!!! Photo below is of 3 of the nurses

Got lots of head rubs today everyone wants to have good luck. So much Positive energy I am still on it even though I am back at work now. What a great group of people.

Test, Test and more Test - ekg scheduled to check the heart - lotion for bug bite. And yes Chemo has put me into Menopause - Dr. K said the ache in hips confirms to him that I am in Menopause - NO Darlene it's not cancer - ha!! yep every ache and pain makes me think I have cancer again!!!

Two weeks ago I was looking at cnn.com and saw a post that read "The Battle We Didn't Choose" - the story was about a photographer who documented his wife's journey through Cancer.

Jennifer had Stage 3B Breast Cancer and won that battle. She was cancer free until 2010 when she received news that the breast cancer had metastasized to her liver and hip; ultimately the cancer made its way to Jen’s brain. She lost her battle in December of 2011, a little over a year and a half after this second diagnosis.

Angelo documented Jennifer through out the journey with Cancer. The images are powerful and really tell her fight with Cancer.

I had the honor of meeting Angelo as he was hanging the photos for his exhibit at The Lower Eastside Girl's Club in NYC. Angelo invited me to drop by today because I had stated on the event page for the fundraiser that my immune system was still low and he knew that I should not be around crowds - what a guy. I was welcomed with such positive energy from Angelo and his two friends Suzy and John.

Joyce O'Brein

I got to speak with Joyce O'Brien today at a reception for a baby's baptism. I first met her at a Girl's Night Out in NYC when I bought her book "Choose to Live". Joyce is a Breast Cancer survivor not once but twice - the last being Stage 4 BC. Joyce is quite an inspiration and she follows the same whole food diet I do but she is more strict with it. I have weak moments but for the most part I stick to the Whole foods - organic fruits and veggies.

I will be going into NYC on Wednesday to meet with Angelo a photographer who documented his wife's journey through Breast Cancer then Brain cancer. I am going in the day before the exhibit because he understands that my immune system is not 100 percent and a room full of people is not a good thing of me - I am careful and have a mask, and use antibacterial wipes. I think meeting him the day before the show will be good - I can document him as he hangs the photos and talk with him about the photos and his wife.

Shoots for a Cure

Darlene Cunnup Photography is excited to announce a partnership with Shoots for a Cure (formerly known as Think Pink Photography). Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a charitable organization that serves two main purposes – celebrating life and supporting the cause. Recently, we changed our name and our support. We now want to support ALL cancer patients, not just breast cancer.

Through our professional photographer network, we are helping cancer patients to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions. Individuals may choose to document their fight against the disease before or during treatment, or prefer to capture their victory by scheduling a session within 12 months after treatment is completed. Photographers world-wide are now available to donate time and talent to celebrate life and support the cause. There is no cost or obligation to the cancer patient. Clients participating in a Shoots for a Cure session will receive a complimentary photo session, as well as a set of 10 small prints from the session. Radiation #16 completed today

16 down 14 more to go then it's off to SC to be with my family and some friends. I haven't seen my family since July 2010 - they couldn't come to visit while I was sick - dad can't travel and mom has to stay with him and my aunt can't travel. My sister wanted to come visit while I was going through chemo but I said no because I wasn't in the mood for visitors - even if they are family. I am going for a 9 day visit at end of February when Radiation is over with.

I am trying to stay up to date with my blog and trying to document my journey - I take the photos but sometimes I am just not good at getting images organized

A friend of mine in SC is doing a magazine and I will be a contributor - it will be cool to have my photos and projects in the magazine. My first project/article is my story as a Photographer living with Breast Cancer. I got my pet scan from my surgeon so I can possibly use it in my story. I have to say it is scary to see the black dots under my arm and know it's Cancer.

On January 24 or 25 I will go into the City (NYC) to see a photo exhibit of a man who documented his wife's journey through Cancer - she had Stage 3B breast cancer, it scares me because I have stage 3A. I can't wait to meet Angelo and see the photos.

Love the books I have been ready by Kris Carr, Crazy Sexy Cancer. She really rocks, love her positive energy.

Radiation #11, rainbows, portraits and so much more

so far so good - no side effects
It's rough getting up so early in the winter months to leave the house at 6:30am to get to Radiation by 7am but I am doing it. I do not like the cold so getting up is hard especially when it is raining - i shot the image below with my phone

My hair is growing back - it's either going to be dark or salt and pepper - if I don't like it I might just shave it off again and start over

I went to a meeting on sunday with a gourd of women Photographers in Harlem, NY - Deb's is a great hostess and photographer and took photos of everyone that wanted photos. I needed headshots for a magazine I am going to be a contributor in below are a couple of photos that she took

this is such a good message - I love joy and try to bring it into my life all year long

I got the books I ordered from Crazy, Sexy Cancer - Kris Carr - she rocks the cancer for sure. Love her books i bought 3. her message is great and very inspiring.

I had gifts from an incredible lady waiting on me when I got home today

I removed photos from my blog!!

I understand rules and policy. As a photographer I do respect the NO PHOTO signs but I am documenting my journey through Breast Cancer and I feel I have a right to take photos of the process.

I wondered why when I went to my radiation appt on Tuesday - the tech mentioned getting an email about not letting people take photos. Well she was referring to the fact that I had photos on my blog that the office mgr there seems to be using as an example because had a had molds with people's names on them (which you couldn't see by the way) -
First of all ask me to remove the photo before you go around making an example of me!!! I would have simply said I did not notice that - sorry and cropped the photo so they did not show!!!! I have removed photos in question from my blog - I will crop and repost later!!

I really can not wait to be done with radiation and doctors and hospitals!!! I had a much better experience with Chemo!!

Focus 52 - 2012

So I decided to do the focus 52 instead of the normal 365 photo a day - which means I will take a photo a wk all year instead of a photo a day. I would never be able to keep up with the 365 at least I didn't in 2011 because I was diagnosed with Breast cancer.

I feel like my life sort of took a twist from the normal - my 2011 was all about doctors, surgery, chemo, work, diet, exercise and staying positive. I let my 2 rooms at the house I live in get out of control with clutter. I did keep photography going by documenting my journey and the life around me when I could.

I chose my word for 2012 REVIVE!!
the definition for Revive is to restore to consciousness or life, to restore from a depressed, inactive, or unused state : bring back, to renew in the mind or memory

I need to do all of the above since battling Breast Cancer in 2011 – I stayed positive and kept my photography going but I feel like I missed out on alot since I was recovering most of the year. 2012 is my come back year – hoping to be at camp shutter sisters this year too!!

hoping to get organized - amazing what happens when you are sick and can't clean or stay organized! I have to organize the little office space soon, I can't be creative when the room is such a mess!! the clutter is not helping me be creative at all - it got out of control when I learned i had breast cancer and got worse when I started chemo - so fatigued after chemo and working that all I wanted to do was get in bed and not deal with anything else.

I wanted to start cleaning over the New years 3 day weekend but living with my mother in law sometimes messes with what I need to do - it's her house and if she has guests over I can't drag all my stuff out and try to clean. Living here in this house has been interesting and I really do have a lot of patience - I need to take the sage and bless this house to get the negative energy out - I feel it as soon as I walk through the front door. I have lived here 16 yrs with it and survived but I am beyond tired of it. Be gone negative spirits Be gone!!!!!

ha!! sitting here typing this and listening to Cali snore!!! OMG - he is loud!!

So much photography that I want to do have to find a way to do it all - need to get some photo exhibits of this year but not sure I am ready for that yet - still have the left arm to watch out for- I don't' want the swelling and lymphedema to start.

I have stayed positive and embraced my baldness - kept a smile on my face

Thank goodness for my sweetie pie Greg - he has stayed by me and help me eat the foods I should be - he is 3 1/2 years cancer free. I really haven't always been the best patient but neither was he.

So as we say good by to 2011 - I am here to say bring it on 2012 - i'm ready for whatever you have for me!!!

New tattoos, radiation, and therapy dog!!!

So I started Radiation today went in with a smile on my face and a positive attitude. Radiation is easier than Chemo - thank goodness and only last 15 minutes. I will be getting treatments everyday but Saturday and sunday until Feb 9 - I am so glad the technicians are happy people and not sticks in the mud robots - I like to be able to joke around and talk to the people I am spending time with.

I got a card today to scan in at the Cancer place so they know I am there for my appointments. So tomorrow for my 7:30am appt I will take the card to scan in, the aquaphor lotion to put on after the radiation so the skin doesn't get damaged I hope, and the pink van to shoot at the radiation/cancer center.....

I met two of the greatest technicians S and R - they were great and let me take photos and even posed for one. I already feel connected to them but S will be rotating to work at the hospital on Tuesday - hope the other technicians are just as friendly

here's a shot of a sign in the dressing room - I love the dog!! I only had to take my clothes off from the waist up so no worries about the back side showing

of course had to have 2 new tattoos put on - tiny as a pin head - I told S and R that the tattoos should be big if they are going to be there for life. I really did expect something larger than a pin head!!! ha!!

I also got to visit with my favorite Therapy dog - her Mom dropped by when they were walking outside - mom had just had major surgery (thank goodness it wasn't cancer but it was crohns diesase)

Yes I had to take a pregnancy test and may have to pay $80 to $100 for it - are you kidding me!!!

this bag will have something put in it that will get very warm and then forms to your upper body to make a mold.

Lots of tape required to hold mold to your arms during scan....

this was the Tech getting the liquid around the garbage that will make the mold!!

Nurse A took this photo of me on the CT Scan table....I blacked out some body parts - but I wanted to show how I was taped to bag and how I had to lay on the table. I couldn't move at all - it was weird.

5 days until Christmas eve!!

It's bitter sweet for me I can't be with my family for Christmas but I was there last year
I miss my family and living in South Carolina
this was a photo from my birthday present this year that my sister made for me... she is so crafty!! She made a photo album with photos of the family holding up signs and photo quotes for me - love her - it was the best present ever.

My dad is not in the best of health and I really want to be home but I have to stay here in NY to finish my journey. Radiation is the next step.

My little Hero

I am very sad to report that my little Hero passed away December 13 - RIP sweet baby. Saoirse was my inspiration as I dealt with my Breast Cancer.

Below is what was on the Danvers patch site about her:

At about 10 a.m. on Dec. 13, the Fitzgerald family shared with their friends and followers on Facebook the heartbreaking news, "Our baby has no more
pain today. She fought the whole way through."

Saoirse, Mike and Kezia Fitzgerald's 18-month-old daughter, passed away following a seven month battle with Neuroblastoma.

NYC - 12.11.12 with great friends

I went into the city on Sunday Dec 11, for the first time since June or maybe it was July!! I met up with two great ladies/fellow photographers for brunch and then some photos around Manhattan!! I was taking it easy since I am still on my Journey with BC and didn't want to over do it but when I got on the 8:40 train to head home, I realized I may have over did it a little!! It was well worth it though!!!

I dog sat for a client for 4 days - 2 pugs named Bonnie and Clyde. Love these 2 but Clyde is a bottomless pit and poor Bonnie is deaf now - we still have fun on our walks though

I went home Saturday to see Greg and our cats - Cali has to be with me at all times especially when sitting on the couch!!

I also got Tamela's book - this lady is incredible she did this book and road cross country on her motorcycle to raise money for women who have Breast Cancer

I work on photo for our holiday card today - this year is different because I added the pink ribbon!!
I always do a card that respresents Greg's music and my photography
wasn't sure what I would do this year but Greg was happy with it.

yes I say Happy Holidays - I have for 21 yrs - I have friends from all over the world and I figure it covers Nrw Years too!!!

I am trying to stay motivated and positive even though it's not easy sometimes.
I registered for the Getting thru the Grey class with Vivienne McMaster - can't wait to start that class..... to keep me motivated during the winter months.
I want to attend the Shutter Sisters camp in 2012 so I am saving my money now!! I want it to be a gift to myself for making it through this crazy year with the BC. Hopefully the camp will be on the East Coast but if not I will travel out to CA for it.

I will find out about Radiation on Dec 9 and the Pet Scan - keeping fingers crossed that it shows no Cancer!!!!!

A friend recommended I read The Dot - yes it is a children's book but if you are an artist - I recommend you read it - powerful little book. I love the book the Giving Tree too.

I am thankful that I discovered my my breast cancer early, chemo is over with and most of all for Greg, family and friends.

Tomorrow 11/24/11 - Thanksgiving will be 6 months since I was diagnosed with Stage 3A Breast Cancer - Yep got the phone call on May 24, 2011. I finished chemo treatment on 11/17/11 - woo hoo!! Now I wait to find out about Radiation schedule and aim to be CANCER FREE.
It still feels surreal to me but I know it is real

I tried to document my story since I am a photographer but I have felt unorganized and unmotivated to do anything - the chemo really takes a toll on you especially when you choose to continue working to keep a paycheck and insurance!! I want to maybe do an exhibit of my photos to show people my story but did I tell my story??

It's been a crazy journey so far and I hope to continue on for years to come with it and maybe turn my journey into something for others to be inspired by.

I got my head painted with Makeup by Andi again for this last Chemo - gotta have fun with it.

I made cards and calendars for the Chemo Nurses for my last Chemo treatment. I bought red velvet mini cupcakes, as well as vanilla and chocolate - they will love me in chemo for sure.

Shoes that Intrigue me Part 2

I had an exhibit at a local Library of shoes that intrigue me - I was inspired by the shoes I see on the feet of people in NYC!!! I borrowed shoes from where I work that the models wear when modeling the Costumes. Some of the shoes are just works of art to me - I especially love the Ellie shoes - her shoes are gorgeous.

I say this all the time especially now that I am bald - and it works well with me being a photographer too... of course the t-shirt was on a young man who is "handicapped" but very precious - I wonder if they make it for adults - I am on a mission now!!! ha!!

People stare at me all the time now since I am bald headed -once in awhile someone is brave enough to ask why I am bald headed - I simply say I have breast cancer and the chemo made my hair fall out!!! they seem sad until I say "i have embraced my baldness and it'll grow back!!!"
kids are honest and speak their mind so when they ask why I dont have hair - I simply say I wanted to be Charlie Brown for Halloween!!!
I do sometimes want to get a tshirt or carry a sign that says "take a picture, it'll last longer!!" But I have found if you just stare back at them, they get nervous and usually walk away.

my hair will go back and until it does I will be embracing the baldness and letting artist paint on it!!!

Side effect from Taxol - chemo

of course I would get the acheness (is that a word??) effect from the chemo!!! the whole body aches - it feels like the same ache you get when you have the flu times 100 - sometimes it comes in waves - the pain makes you miserable!!!
I probably got 4 hours sleep with the pain and time change. I dont like to complain but this ache is horrible. I will probably ache until tuesday. the good news is I only gave one more treatment and I am done with Chemo!!!!
I still haven't found a BC group like the one in Charlotte that gets together to talk, hang out and share. of course for me going to art workshops when I can is good for me. I really loved the Soul Collage workshop I attended in Long Beach
My photography has totally helped me through this journey.

I had chemo on Thursday and knew I wouldn't be up for anything today. I am actually cat/house sitting for a friend until Nov 12.

So on my birthday as I sit here on her couch watching back to future 3, and enjoying the quiet - alone on my Birthday - I am happy. I have taken some photos and talked to my mom and a great BC sister in Texas.

Chemo treatment #7

I took some photos on my walk to the Oncologist office today of leaves, halloween sign my shoes - I will have to post tomorrow because even though I am on my new laptop I don't' have images on it yet and don't have card reader up in bedroom with me. I am resting after the chemo - tired and had an up set stomach either from the lettuce on my burrito or from the cheese on my pizza yesterday - i think it's the gallstone/gallbladder more than the chemo......
today as I sat in Chemo I realized I will miss the chemo nurses - they are great women ad have helped me through the 4 months of chemo!! the laughter, the talks, the sharing of stories - these women are there to make your experience more bearable and I love them for that!!
I will be finishing my Chemo on Nov 17 and will give them big hugs, take photos, share gifts, and embrace the fact that I will still see them when ever I can visit and well as long as i have my port in I will be seeing them for flushings - cleanings of the port!!
Radiation will start 4 weeks after chemo - I am hoping for a quiet start to winter since I will probably be starting in January!!
I have plans for when I am done.... like a helicopter ride over Manhattan (always wanted to do that and my friend Debra said she and her husband will take me up to celebrate!! awesome!!), photo trips with friends and a short visit home in February - hoping to have one night out with a group of friends there......
As I type this my cat Cali is resting next to me. Cali has been with me since I rescued him but since I was my diagnosed with Breast cancer he has been my shadow always with me and loving on me. when you rescue animals they know they will be loved and have found their forever homes.

I should be documenting my time in chemo more but the patients don't always won't to be photographed so I shoot the Poison that goes in my body, a couple of the nurses, signs around the room, my shoes, Kathy's shoes, self portraits, but I will documenting my last treatment and whoever is there for sure!!!! I am hoping to do an exhibit of the photos at some point. I would so love to be able to shoot more patients - how do I go about asking they don't seem to be embracing it like I am!!!!

The Sunday after chemo treatment

Taxol the chemo drug I am on causes body aches and of course I have that side effect - I hurt from head to toe!! I usually handle pain well but when this ache starts it is a painful ache in the joints and muscles. It effects my bad back, knees and arthritis in my hands - there is no getting comfortable when you sleep - the ache doesn't go away. I take fast acting advil and it kind of helps but not really - I can't get comfortable but I try to go on with my life!!!

Breakfast was waffles with real maple syrup - I wanted something fast - I will make my smoothie later.

Sitting on the couch with one of our cats Cali - he is my buddy!!! He likes to snuggle up close to me!!!

So much to do and yet I don't have the energy to do anything with this pain/ache. Pumpkin to crave, bedroom needs to be cleaned and my little office space, Christmas card photo to be taken - yes need to do that now because i send out over 100 cards!!!, thank you cards and packages to be packed and mailed out!!!!!

I want to read this book - "Breastless in the city". it was written by a woman living in nyc who discovers she has breast cancer. i believe she is 25 when diagnosed. I have so many books I need to read!!!

I am approaching things (or at least trying to) one day at a time with a smile on my face. But the idea of cancer recurrence has weighed heavily on my mind this weekend. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s due to everything i’ve been through over the past six months. It’s not easy to handle the idea of your own mortality. Life seems even more precious now from this vantage point. I’m bombarded by thoughts of my past, present, and uncertain future. I keep a smile on my face and face everyday as it comes.......

Ok so I got to my chemo appt early as always 8:50am on thursday 10/20 but it was a beautiful walk to the office and I took some photos - at chemo greeted by Donna great to see her and Jeannie - they keep chemo room alive. Cathy is here to might be a busy day. Nurse Cathy came in also.

I got to share one of my note pads with the pig on it with nurse Donna - I love giving these out hte make me smile - the pig is so cute!!! see below for images - I am also sending these out as thanks you so people who have sent me good wishes...

I met a lady in staples today who also had cancer - not breast cancer but she had it worse than me. Terry lee kept saying how inspiring and cheerful I was but after all she went through and she is still smiling, she is the one who inspires....
I took Greg to the train station and a lady came over to the van to say how incredible she thought we were.. me for be bald and smiling through my sickness and Greg for being there for me - she thought we made a cute couple too... I love to make people happy and we really made her happy today!!!

My sister took this photo of me and my parents when I was home in July of this year - i was going to see the Rocky Horror play and had just had my hair cut off since I would lose in when chemo started in August. I think it has been harder for me not being close to my family now that I am sick. I stay strong and positive so I can make it home to South Carolina again in 2012 to enjoy time with my family and friends. I totally miss living in the Carolina's and will always call it home - NY is just a place I have been visiting for 16 yrs!!!

I did it - I walked the 5k along the boardwalk with my friend Linda, her sister in law and some ladies she works with at St. Catherine's.
I got to Jones Beach at 6:30 (I am always the early one) - I knew there would be alot of traffic later...in the morning.

Making Strides for Breast Cancer

I am walking in my first Breast Cancer walk tomorrow - in Jones Beach, NY - I hward it get crowded so I am going 6am to get a spot in line to park since parking lots don't open until 6:45
I wonder if it is so crowded because as my Thyroid doctor said Long Island has the highest percentage of Breast Cancer in the country - just great!!!
Anyway I will be taking photos tomorrow since I am not sure the walking will happen - I am still aching from the taxol.

did I post about my 21st anniversary with Greg - yep Oct 13 marked our 21st year together. WOW
He got me roses and a beautiful card that and wrote inside that his wish for our anniversary was that I get better so we can have 21 more together.... he's a keeper for sure - love my man!!

Ok on October 6 I had treatment #5 so excited almost done with Chemo

I went on October 6 with my head painted with makeup by my friend Andi - she did a great job on Wednesday and even though I knew it was makeup and would smear, I left it on so on Thursday I could show the nurses at Chemo
I have totally embraced my baldness and only wear a hat or bandana when it is cold out!!

I have been doing the Picture this photo classes for about 2 yrs now - I loveTracey Clark and had the privilege of meeting her in 2010 at the Snap Happy Hour in NYC awesome time that night and met some great female photographers that I am still friends with. I have also mad some friends through the Fb Picture 2011 page -I am so behind in picture taking and uploading - going through BC, chemo and working FT and staying positive takes a lot out of you!!
As I sat in chemo for 5 hrs today I talked to the amazing nurses and some of the, patients there I took photos and thought I have to do something with the photos I am taking - maybe an exhibit!
I have to thank the women photographers who inspire me: Susan Mack, Joellyn Johnson, Tracey Clark, the shutter sisters, Kim Klassen, Ami Griffin, Meagan Davidson, Mary Presson Roberts, Morgen Bearse....... The list goes on!!!

BTW my 5th chemo went well today!! It was 5 hours long but the nurses are great and entertaining. I also met some chemo patients who were sweet and we talked. One lady finished her treatment me today and was going on a trip to celebrate - she asked me what I would do and I told her I had plans to finally fly in helicopter over NYC to take photos with my friend Deborah and her husband!!!

I was Canvas for an Artist today

I decided I wanted to embrace the bald head and have it painted so my friend Andi at work who is a professional makeup artist said she would do it!! We did it this morning in the photostudio/makeup room - it was so fun to take photos and watch her work!! I love it!!

I am celebrating being bald and beautiful but today it was chilly out so I wore a cool hat I have for the winter months - I will probably be wearing this hat in the chemo room now since it is so cold in there!! 4 more treatments to go!!

October is Breast Cancer month!!

Finally got to go out to Grounds for sculpture in NJ with Susan and Joy - great times!!! I also got to meet FB friend Susan in person and make a new friend Judy - who is a 9 yr BC Survivor!!!

I have had no chemo since Sept 15 my next treatment is Oct 6.
there have been so many great friends and strangers doing the BC runs in my Honor - Love and thanks to all!!! Jody Pettus, Cynthia and Jo and her daughters in Portland - love you all!!!
I will be walking October 16 in the Jones beach cancer walk!!! should be fun!! my coworker and friend Linda is doing this one for her Cousin and me - love her.

A Fellow BC friend emailed last week and this one sentence that really made me laugh in her email because it is so true -
"Oh, remember the days of getting dressed up pretty and going on a date? Now we talk about bowel movements, nap times and sore butts - who would have thought?"

Ok so October 6 marks the 5th chemo and a new drug - taxol -suppose to be slow drip on this one - not looking forward to being there for 5 hrs and hoping it doesn't make me sick!!! Th oncologist said this is the drug with the least side effects - ok
I just can't wait to feel normal again - so tired be having no energy an don being able to taste.
Potassium level was low this time around and I wonder if it is because I am not doing the dinner smoothies?? I have no energy to make it - guess I need to drink more Gary null drink mix and eat spinach salads!!!!!
It's been a hard week with side effects and tiredness!!! I have been going to work but did leave early yesterday!!
Going to NJ this weekend - if it doesn't rain!! Looking forward to a day with Susan and Joy
Susan sent a flyer from a girl in her office that is doing a cancer run/walk in support of me - how sweet and her friend Jo and her daughters did one in portland in support of me too - people/strangers can be so nice - funny how friends seem to disappear!! Not all of them but the ones you thought you could count on!!! Whatever I know who my true friends are and we all handle things differently - peace love and photography to all!!!!

People say I am strong - I am just trying to carrying on. I wish I had to opportunity to stay home and rest during this journey through chemo but I have to work - I need the paycheck and the benefits!!!!! This is chemo week so I will have chemo tomorrow -thursday - and work from home on Friday and Monday because of the fatigue!! It's not easy there have been side effects that make it harder to carry on but I do!! The women I have connected with have all been great sharing stories but one really stands out and that is Diane - I think we have had all the same side effects of this poison called chemo so it's great to talk with her!!

I have an Photo exhibit coming up in October - glad it's only 12 photos but still I needy come up with 12 photos to hang!! I will pull it together and decide on the images - maybe even do one for the journey inamgoing through!!! I put everything on hold but this slipped by me!! Ha!!

I have to get my pet sitting and photography business built up again!! So inn2012 I am ready to rock - I haven't had to energy to process images from may and June and July that I took for people so bad of me!!!!!!!

Ok so tomorrow is chemo #4 - woo hoo!! Only 4 more to go after tomorrow.....

3rd chemo treatment down - 5 to go!!!!

I am so behind and I am sorry - the fatigue from the chemo is really bad for me!! I had my 3rd treatment on Sept 1 and of course mother nature had to show her face too!! Dr. K said i should stop getting period and I hope so cause the fatigue is like 12x worse!!!!!!!

I was actually headed home to SC to see my family on August 24 - but we had thunderstorms here that delayed flights and as I sat at the airport feeling worse and worse I knew I had to cancel my plans. thanks to the lady at the USAIR desk who said I should just go to baggage area 2 pick up my bags and call Greg - she had already given me credit for my ticket - sweetie that she was!! Hurricane Irene came and went - we didn't get damage - thank goodness!! it was a crazy weekend though!!

Saw Dr. K yesterday and he says I am doing great. I am on the whole food diet(fruits and veggies) and green drinks so I know that helps!!! My 4th treatment is on Sept 15 then 2 weeks off due to the Jewish holiday. Hoping to go to NJ with S and J for a day at Grounds for Sculpture!!! love that place!!!

I got some great cards from some friends and a bracelet from my childhood BFF. A good friend and fellow cancer patient sent me a couple of hats ( so cute and sassy) - it's nice to know people care.

Ok I am going to try to be better with the blogging I promise!! I have to get more organized at home - I told Greg we look like hoarders with all the stuff in the bedroom that we brought up from basement in case of flood from Irene and of course I didn't get to unpack from my canceled trip home and just having no energy to clean!!

I went to Long Beach on Sunday 8/21 to relax and enjoy the sea breeze before it got too hot and sunny

On this journey I am going through you have to take good days when you get them - so I decided that Sunday 6am was a good day to walk on the beach!!!

I decided to dye my hair pink on Friday before it all fell out

I went on 8/18 for chemo #2 - as I sat in the car I was pulling handfulls of hair out - they say it starts after 2nd treatment. It's part of my journey and I know it will grow back so I have decided to dye it pink!!!!

ok so no one warned me about having your period right after a chemo treatment - IT"S NOT FUN!!!!
I have been in a foggy state since Saturday my chemo treatment was Aug 4 - just thought it was part of the chemo toxins and poisons but then this morning I got my period - oh that explains it - the chemo magnifies everything by 5 times!!!!!! I am feeling a little better - need to rest but doing some work for work from home!!
Had my dentist appt this morning - good to see Greg's uncle he cleaned my teeth and said they were in good shape let's hope they stay that way.
Ok no one told me about the acne break out due to chemo either!!! probably due to period but times 5!!! Chemo is not my friend.......

Sorry since getting back from visiting the Carolinas and then starting chemo on Aug 4 - I have been a little out of it!!! I have lots of photos to upload but can do it on iPad and no energy right now do sit in front of computer - the drugs you take after chemo treatment - emend and dex are making me loopy - which I kind of expected my system can't handle anything stronger than a motrin or tylonel!! I will try to post photos tomorrow of the haircut, visit home and first chemo treatment!! The nurses are great they love having me document my journey!! And don't mind being in photos - I am respecting the other patients and not taking their photos!!

Are you kidding me i wait over an hour for an appointment to see the surgeon for a post op to the Port surgery and he take s the Bandage off and says see you in 4 months - my response was H*** no you are going to answer some questions for me _I didn't just wait an hour for that!!!! he took me in his office and we talked - funny guy I really like him!!

then it was off to the Chemo teaching appt that I was now 30 minutes late for

the calendar of my next 2 months of Treatment - guess I won't be using cell phone to shoot in this office - check out the lines!! my digital better not have this effect!!

Forgot the Peace moblie went with me to the city (NYC) on Saturday but to hot to enjoy myself - will post more photos of the city adventure tomorrow.

Today was not a good day - I am sick!! And still sore from having the port put in for chemo!!!
I went to NYC yesterday and wanted to post photos from the adventure but I woke up with a sore throat and runny nose - nom fever but I feel horrible and wondering with lymph nodes being removed should I be worried??
I see surgeon tomorrow and then go to the chemo teaching session!! I will ask if I can get antibiotics since I am sick and will be flying home on Wednesday. Excited about trip home, I get to see my parents, take down a photo exhibit and hang the photos at WSOC. It" ll be fun to hang out with mom and dad and their dog ginger but I am also going to get my hair cut off!! Yep, going for a pixie style, i will post photos of the haircut in progress and the final cut I am sure Karl will make me look great he always does!!!
This journey I am on into the world of breast cancer is scary but I am very positive and staying that way!!!!
I also had sad news yesterday an incredible man I grew up with was dead. Very sad about this - I emailed his oldest daughter and she said he would want the, to be strong and that is what she was doing!! My prayers and thoughts are with the Adams family!

Will post photos tomorrow when I hopefully feel better!!!

In February 20 of this year I noticed a soreness in my left breast and told my hematologist/medical oncologist about it , the next morning I noticed a swollen lymph node - I was already scheduled for a mamo and sonogram on March 7 - these tests just showed the swollen lymph node. My doctor gave me antibiotics and the lymph node became the size of a grape so we weren't thinking it was cancer and the blood test weren't showing anything abnormal - I was seeing my hematologist/medical oncologist weekly but the lymph node wasn't going back to normal . On May 6 my hematologist/medical oncologist said he wanted me to see a surgeon to have lymph node removed - I saw the surgeon on May 12 and told him the bottom of my breast was now sore - felt like I was sleeping on rocks - he flet nothing but was sending me for a needle biopsy - which turned into 2 because of the sore spot!!! the doctor and nurse said I was the best patient they had ever had - I just talked and laughed the whole time with them - I didn't realized it had taken 3hrs- Greg was in the waiting room watching soap operas and worrying about me because it was taking so long. The "FUN" part was when they finished and I was told I had to now go have a mamo to make sure markers were in right spots!!!! Are you f-ing kidding me after what you just did now I have a mamo!! ha!! - it was ok not too much pain since i was still numb.
Surgery was June 28th and I am told it went well - even though doctor was surprised to find cancer in 6 lymph nodes!! the recovery from the anesthesia was not good for me 5 hrs in recovery!!! I have now been home recovery and doing well. Already able to get arm over head. still numb under arm and on breast but surgeon says that will go away but under arm it may always stay numb - interesting!!
I have already been taking photos and trying to document my journey. will take camera to next appt and try to take photos of what's going on as they take drainage tube out!!

Russia is known for it's Sunflowers and this one that I photographed and then added an Iris filter to makes me think of the destruction from the Chernobyl disaster - nature has a way of coming back no matter what!!!

Russian Czar Peter the Great discovered the sunflower while on a trip to Holland and began one of the world's first large cultivation programs. The Russian Orthodox Church increased sunflower popularity when it forbade most oil foods from being consumed during Lent. Sunflower was not on the prohibition list and thus gained immediate popularity as a food. In the early 19th century, farmers in Russia were growing over 2 million acres of sunflowers. By 1880, the sunflower had found its way back to the United States and seed companies were advertising the "Mammoth Russian" sunflower seed in their catalogs.

Ok I haven't posted anything new since Dec 6. 2010 - sorry. December was a busy month and then January well the snow, the cold, the going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark - I do not like the month of January.
It has snowed way too much already and we are due for more tomorrow, the only thing I look forward to is trying to get a closeup photo of a snowflake!!!!

I happen to be in Manhattan when it started snowing - always like to capture NYC sites in the snow. It seems to always snow the day after I am there or during the week when I am at work!!

This is me, my sister and our parents (that's Ginger at the bottom!!) I got to go home for Christmas this year and got to stay extra days because of a blizzard in NY!! thanks Mother Nature!!

Today was day 6 of Picture the Holidays and Tracey wanted us to: Begin this day with eyes wide open to the tiny wonders that are constantly swirling all around you. Even at the most ordinary time of day, while doing the most mundane tasks, little moments of enchantment will reveal themselves. Find some small delight today.

I have a Charlie Brown Christmas tree - yes I got it at CVS to do the photo for our Christmas Cards this year and everyday I see the one red ornament that came with it it makes me smile - It's all in the detail - makes you stop and see......

Chances are it's chilly outside today, after all winter is coming. Whether you choose to brave the cold and venture outside today or you gaze just out your window, take a few moments to enjoy the view.

So it was chilly today so I looked out the backdoor and saw this one leaf on the mat outside. Out of all the leaves in the yard this one leaf had blow onto the doormat - this was my view!!!!

Day 2 of Picture the Holidays is about looking at things a little differently, today you'll be using a literal frame for your image. You get to decide what goes in your frame today and how you choose to capture it!
So after the week I have had I decided I needed to find the ability to BELIEVE again......

this one is a little more focused on the frame than the Believe rock - I felt it showed me trying to find the ability to believe!!!!

Picture the Holidays started today with Tracey Clark - I had the pleasure of meeting her at the Shutter Sisters Snap Happy Hour in NYC. I have been looking forward to taking this class and being inspired by the others who are also taking the class. So I posted a photo of my sister and I in our Halloween costumes in probably 1974 or so...... I snapped the photo of the photo of us in a frame cause I am grateful for the memories I had in my childhood..... here's the photo

I really had a great childhood and a great family to share it with. We were all about family and being together. I don't get to see the family now as often as I like since I am in NY and they live in SC.... I try to go as often as I can and more since my dad turned 80 this year. I hold onto those memories of Childhood tightly.

on Thursday I went into the city (NYC) to attend the Shutter Sisters Snap Happy hour and stopped in Times Square to take few photos....

It was such a perfect night - great night to people watch. So many interesting people show up in Times Square and you never know what you will see - like a photo shoot for a young couple just getting married who were thrilled when I said I just want to shoot your shoes HA!! that's me!!

this was interesting - almost like Where's Waldo when you are trying to find yourself on the screen - yes there I am in the back - i see me!!

And then it was time to go to the Vivid lounge for the Snap Happy Hour!! The sign says it all - Great Times are waiting!!!

I love daisies - I was dog sitting when I saw these in the person yard - I just happened to have the brown glass vase in my car....... yes as a photographer I am always seeing and when I have the opportunity I take the photo!!!! I took over 300 photos in 3 days of dog/house sitting (lots of the doggies) - people say they get bored and I don't understand that because as long as i have eyes and a camera I am never bored...
